Avery Armstrong
2025 Laureate

Avery, age 12, is a student of Rose Chen at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. She has earned first prizes at the Marilyn Mindell Piano Competition, Bradshaw & Buono International Piano Competition, Chicago International Music Competition, United States International Music Competition, and numerous others. An enthusiastic chamber musician, Avery attended the Music@Menlo Chamber Music Festival and took the Grand Prize at the ENKOR International Chamber Music Competition. She will appear as soloist in Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3 with the Central Oregon Symphony. Outside the concert hall, Avery volunteers at a local cat shelter, shares her home with three adored cats, and pursues her passion for biology as an active member of her school’s Biology Olympiad Club.

Isabel Feng
2025 Laureate

Isabel, age 14, is a freshman at Folsom High School in Folsom, CA. She has been playing piano for 10 years and currently studies under Yoshikazu Nagai at SFCM Pre-College. Isabel is a prizewinner of numerous competitions, including MTNA Junior Piano Competition, San Jose International Piano Competition, Xinghai Cup National Piano Competition in China, Vancouver International Music Competition, Kaufman International Youth Piano Competition, and International e-Piano Junior Competition. She has also earned 1st prizes at all three CAPMT California State Competitions and MTAC Piano Concerto Solo State Competition. Outside piano, Isabel also enjoys swimming, baking and playing chess.

Peter Parra
2025 Laureate

Peter, age 15, is a sophomore at Mountain View High School and studies piano with Professor Corey McVicar at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music Pre-College. A 2022–24 Young Scholar of the Lang Lang International Music Foundation, he is a 2025–26 US Chopin Foundation Scholar and NPR From the Top Fellow. He has performed across the US, Europe, and Asia, with features on WQED, IPR, and NPR. Peter has attended prestigious summer programs including Aspen, Frost Chopin, and Music@Menlo. A prizewinner in numerous competitions, he directs the Back-to-Bach Mountain-View-Los-Altos Region. Besides piano, he’s a nationally-ranked competitive junior ballroom dancer and STEM enthusiast. — Peter was also selected by this year’s judges to play the competition required selection, Kocja Prelude No. 1, at the final concert.

Meining Wu
2025 Laureate

Meining, age 16, a Junior at Valley Christian High School, studies piano with Hans Boepple. A two-time US Chopin Foundation Young Pianists Scholarship Awardee (2024 and 2025), Meining debuted with Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra in 2023, and has performed with Central Texas Philharmonic and Golden State Youth Orchestra. Her recent prizes include Gold Prize at 2025 San Francisco International, 1st Places at CAPMT State Finals, Henry and Carol Zeiter Piano Competition, and MTAC CM Panel Honors Award. Other than music, Meining also loves visual arts, her artwork has won Silver Key in Scholastic Art and Writing Award.
